BLOG 6 - VARIATIONS TO MY STUDIE PROGRAMME
This is my last year at the university, and I
am so very happy because finally I will finish my career, after long 8 years.
The curriculum of my career, “musical composition”, include to many subjects
such as: musical analysis, orchestration, counterpoint, harmony, theory and voice
practice (solfeo), history of music, electroacoustic music, musical literature,
esthetic, investigation, and obviously composition among others. The workload
never was a problem for me, because I always loved work hard, and the hours
that I invested in the academy was something gratifying for me. The length of
studies, seven years, is divided in two degrees: the first four years for the
basic stage, and the last three years for the advanced stage (this year it made
a curricular change, in which they joined basic stage and superior stage. One
of the reasons is so that those of basic stage have the same benefits as those
of advanced stage). The buildings and infrastructure of the conservatory it could
be say is the worst in all faculties of the University of Chile. But this
answer to a conflict that is beyond the faculty. The foundations rest in scarce
interest to the arts and culture in this country. But when I speak of “faculty”,
I speak certainly of “humans” that integrate this “faculty”. Faculty is “teaching”.
So the worthless infrastructure is not a problem, when the teaching force is
there. The use of technology also is not essential, but useful for each one of
us. The concept of technology for us, the composers, subordinates to the concept
of “software”. The teaching methods in recent years has been disputed,
discussed. But this also answer to a “cosmic conflict”, and not to a “teaching
method”. All the structures of the tradition is coming down very fast, and this
event includes all the methodologies that we have used.
